What can be treated with Profhilo / Skin Booster?
Face, hands, neck, knees, body; areas where you have noticed Ageing skin with fine lines and wrinkles, Loss of elasticity, Necklines, scarring, skin tone and texture, superficial pigmentation and sun damage, as a treatment to prime the skin prior to microneedling, dull looking skin, dehydrated skin, for ‘collagen banking’ to maintain the collagen and elastin levels.
What to expect during Profhilo/ Skin Booster treatment?
Prior to treatment, the skin is cleaned thoroughly and a numbing cream is applied. The gel is injected into the skin using either a very small needle or a flexible, blunt cannula. Following treatment you may notice some temporary puffiness, redness and bumps for 24-72hours depending on the area treated and the technique used.
How many Profhilo/ Skin Booster treatment sessions do I need?
For most patients a course of 3 treatments with 2-4 weeks between each session is recommended. Following this, a maintenance treatment every 6-9 months is usually advised to refresh your results.
How long does Profhilo/Skin Booster treatment results last?
Depending on the reason Profhilo treatment was chosen, the results may last for varying duration. For scarring concerns the results can be long lasting if not permanent. For skin texture and quality the results last 6-9 months which is why we advise a maintenance session.
Who can have Profhilo/ Skin Booster treatment?
Profhilo is suitable and safe for most people. However it is not suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your medical history will be assessed during your consultation appointment prior to your treatment to ensure it is safe for you to proceed.
When will I see results from Profhilo/ Skin Booster treatment?
Most people will see an improvement in skin hydration and quality in as a little as 7 days., however optimum results will be noted around 3-4 weeks after your final treatment session. Usually 2-3 weeks is advised between your 3 treatment sessions to complete the course.
Can I have Profhilo/ Skin Booster treatment while pregnant?
Because there have been no clinical studies on pregnant or breastfeeding people, it has not been proven to be safe and as such it is not available for those patients.
What should I do after Profhilo/ Skin Booster treatment?
Any redness and bumps should decrease over 24hours. Please refrain from touching the skin with hands for the rest of the day. Do not massage the skin for 2 weeks. Skin can be cleaned with mild cleanser. Do not scrub the skin. Pat dry the skin with clean towel. Avoid facial products containing fragrance for 3-5 days as these may irritate the skin.
Make up can be applied the next day but ensure brushes and sponges are clean. Avoid extreme temperatures such as sun light, sauna , steam rooms for 48hrs after treatment. Apply sunscreen with minimum SPF 30( Ideally 50+) on a daily basis with regular applications throughout the day for a period of 2 weeks. Avoid electrolysis, waxing, bleaching, depilatory creams and laser hair removal for at least 14 days if treated the same area. Avoid facial treatments such as chemical peels for at least 14 days. Avoid swimming until there is no more redness or inflammation.
Are Profhilo/ Skin Boosters safe?
Skin Boosters and Profhilo have an excellent safety record. Ther are very few adverse reactions reported from this treatment and they have been used for many years.
What should I expect after Profhilo treatment?
After your treatment, your skin may be red or pink, there may be some puffiness and swelling. Depending on the area being treated, you may have some bumps on the skin that resemble nettle rash for 24-72 hours. For most people the redness and bumps resolve within 24-48 hours. Sometimes it can take 3-4 days for the skin to return to its normal colour and you may have some bruises for longer than this. Very rarely large bruises can form which takes longer to heal.
You can wear make up the next day. Please avoid ‘active’ ingredients such as retinols, Vitamin C, acids such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid until the skin is no longer red/ inflamed. Please use minimum SPF30 daily and throughout the day.
How do Profhilo/ Skin Boosters work?
There are many different brands of skin booster and at Epitomi Aesthetics we will use the most suitable one for your specific concerns to maximise your results. They are made of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid and contain additional vitamins and minerals. Generally speaking most skin boosters work by triggering a response in the skin cells to produce more collagen and elastin while the gel itself attracts moisture to the area and having a marked hydrating effect.
