What are chemical peels?

Microneedling allows skin to regenerate. This skin injection treatment helps the skin produce its own natural collagen. This leads to new and healthier layers of skin cells that are thicker and plumper than ever before.

Micro-needling can help with :

  • Removing and reducing acne scarring
  • Reducing enlarged pores
  • Removing dark spots
  • Lightening hyperpigmentation
  • Improving Skin texture and tone
  • Reducing Stretch marks
  • Reducing Skin scars
  • Improving Collagen deficiency

Overall your skin becomes more firm and smooth giving you a glowing youthful appearance.

We recommend that you undergo a series of 3 treatments, approximately 6 weeks apart to ensure optimal results. When treating acne scars and other skin scarring, it is often necessary to extend your treatment plan by up to 5 or 6 treatments.

Microneedling can be used as a combination treatment with other cosmetic procedures, such as chemical peels.  Dr Effie will recommend the best course of treatment for your specific skin condition.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have microneedling done straight away?

Following your consultation we always prepare your skin at home for at least two weeks before we begin.

To prepare your skin for your treatment you will need to pre-prime your skin with prescribed products. This all helps to ensure optimal results from your treatment.

What skin conditions can microneedling treat?

Microneedling is an amazing treatment for patients with concerns such as: acne scars, stretch marks, enlarged pores, uneven skin tones, pigmentation and facial lines and wrinkles.

What to expect from microneedling?

The micro-needling pen has 12 small needles and oscillates approximately 1700 times a second and sounds like an electric toothbrush it gently oscillates the skin infusing peptides and nutrients further into the skin layers.

This procedure takes about 30 minutes. This not only creates channels for the nutrients to travel into the skin but the actual process itself stimulates your own natural healing mechanisms resulting in plumped, rejuvenated skin.

The needles can be adjusted to the perfect length based on the area of your skin being treated and your skin concern.

Does microneedling hurt?

The chances are your treatment will be relatively painless. You will feel very minor discomfort as the treatment is applied, however, this is minimal and any mild irritation will subside very quickly.

We can discuss this at your consultation and if you are at all concerned a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied beforehand but this is very rarely necessary.

What are the side effects of microneedling?

Most patients look as though they have a moderate to severe sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual.

This is normal and will subside after 1 to 2 hours.

Full healing will take up to 7 days to reveal brighter, clearer skin.

When will I see results of microneedling?

Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after a treatment as collagen production continues.

Am I a suitable candidate for microneedling?

We advise all our patients to have a consultation first to discuss your skin concerns so we can advise on the best treatment plan. Microneedling is suitable for all skin types however it is not suitable for patients who:

  • Have used prescribed acne treatments within the last 6 months.
  • Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions to the skin.
  • Have a current outbreak of cold sores, active acne, acne cysts, or any infection or chronic skin conditions.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.
What post treatment advice is there for microneedling?
  • Application of SPF 30-50 is recommended at all times even in the winter.
  • Refrain from spending long periods in direct sunlight.
  • Do not touch or apply make up for 4 hours after the treatment
  • Refrain from prolonged periods in the sun and avoid sunbathing
  • Avoid electrolysis, waxing or bleaching for 72 hours
  • Redness may last several hours.
