What to expect during your dermal filler appointment?

Dermal Fillers are a well-known and extremely popular injectable treatment for tackling the signs of ageing, rejuvenating the skin and helping to enhance natural facial features.

Dermal fillers are HA or hyaluronic acid based injectables that naturally break down with time– typically lasting 9-15 months depending on the area treated and the amount injected.

Dermal fillers generally take around 1 hour to administer. A treatment plan will be agreed upon after assessment and discussion of your thoughts, expectations and budget to provide the best results for you. Topical anaesthetic is generally applied 30 minutes before the treatment.

The Dermal fillers will then be administered through several injections. The initial injection may be felt but as the dermal filler contains lidocaine the procedure shouldn’t be too painful. You can return to work or day to day activities immediately.

Here’s a general ‘rule of thumb’ when it comes to filler longevity:

6-9 months
Tear Trough Filler
6-9 months
Cheek Filler
9-12 months
Nasolabial Filler
9-12 months
Jawline Filler

Nasolabial Folds

  • The lines that appear between the nose and mouth when we smile become more prominent and deeper as we age. We can smooth out the cavity around the mouth by either plumping out the fold itself or lifting the skin above it with cheek fillers.
  • Both treatments will leave you with restored volume and a subtle, naturally refreshed appearance. With our Nasolabial Folds treatment, you can maintain a healthy and youthful appearance and get back to smiling naturally without worry.

Tear Trough

  • The Tear Trough is a hollow that runs from the side of the nose, below the eye and above the upper cheekbone, almost creating a ‘dip’ in the face under the eyes. This area can become deeper giving the appearance of dark circles and may feel like it makes you look more tired. Many may also notice as they age, wrinkles appear around the tear trough areas.
  • With the use of dermal fillers we can soften these dark circles and rejuvenate the area around the eyes leaving you looking less tired and more refreshed.

Dermal Filler Maintenance

Although the results from dermal fillers are immediate, the end result is not really evident until at least a month later as filler needs time to integrate into the skin and settle. This might mean that after a month or so, you would want to book in for a top-up session to achieve your desired result. Dermal filler products are long lasting but not permanent. Longevity depends on the type of filler used, its indication, compliance with aftercare and individual factors such as metabolism. This means that in order to uphold your results from treatment, you must maintain them via regular appointments.

For example, in popular treatments such as lip fillers and tear trough fillers, you will only see long-lasting results if they are maintained. We at Epitomi Aesthetics, recommend booking an appointment 6 months after your dermal filler treatment so we can assess whether you may need a top-up of dermal filler to keep results looking beautiful and natural for longer.
